After years of hard work and planning, the Alexander Valley Health and Wellness Center is finally within reach, thanks to a huge $3.5 million boost from the State of California. Senator Mike McGuire made the big announcement in Cloverdale on October 29.
Before the announcement, Senator McGuire visited AVH’s Tarman Medical Center and met with the dedicated providers who serve this community every day. He listened as doctors, nurses, and staff shared what the new facility will mean for them and their patients—more space, better equipment, and the ability to offer a wider range of services to everyone in Cloverdale and beyond.
The new building will be 27,000 square feet over two stories—and include: urgent care, a pharmacy, and on-site lab services as well as an expansion of existing primary medical, dental, and behavioral health. Eventually it will double the number of patients AVH can serve and make sure everyone, from children to seniors, has access to the care they need.
The $3.5 million from the state is just the latest piece of the puzzle. To date, AVH has raised $7.7 million from a mix of generous neighbors, local businesses, foundations, Sonoma County, Congressman Huffman, and the State Bond BHCIP program. AVH has already invested over $4 million into the project, but with the total cost—including construction, furnishing, equipment, and fees at around $38 million, there’s still a long way to go. The rest will need to be financed through a tax-exempt bond, so every dollar raised from here on out helps boost our equity and makes the project stronger.
Construction is set to start in early 2026, with the goal of finishing by early 2028. We’re not at the finish line yet, but with the community’s continued support, we’re moving closer every day.
Soon, Northern Sonoma County will have the health center it deserves—right here in Cloverdale!
