We’re delighted to welcome Dr. Kanwal Qidwai to the Alexander Valley Healthcare team! Dr. Qidwai is a board-certified physician specializing in Addiction Medicine, Obesity Medicine, and Public Health & Preventive Medicine — bringing a remarkable depth of training and experience to our organization. Dr. Qidwai is available now for remote telehealth appointments.
Dr. Qidwai earned her MD from Dow University of Health Sciences and a Master of Science in Clinical Research from the University of New Mexico, where her thesis focused on breaking down barriers to opioid addiction treatment. She completed an Addiction Medicine Fellowship at Kaiser Permanente Northern California, rotating across six Bay Area locations, in addition, she has completed a Primary Care Psychiatry Fellowship, and is pursuing an Addiction Medicine Fellowship both at UC Irvine.
With experience spanning community health centers, urgent care, occupational health, and telemedicine — including serving as Medical Director at an FQHC MAT clinic — Dr. Qidwai brings hands-on expertise in medication-assisted treatment, dual diagnosis care, and chronic disease management. She is passionate about making evidence-based addiction and obesity care accessible to all and has published research on improving treatment access for underserved populations.
Dr. Qidwai is especially committed to patient education and counseling, taking the time to help patients truly understand the impacts of their medications. Her exceptionally compassionate approach ensures that every patient feels heard and supported on their journey to better health.
Outside of work, Dr. Qidwai enjoys spending time with her family — especially doing puzzles with her children.
Dr. Qidwai is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the California Society of Addiction Medicine, and the American College of Preventive Medicine.
